What is Inuspheresis®?
Inuspheresis® is a Swiss technology, developed over more than 15 years in cooperation between engineers and physicians in Switzerland and Germany. It is a double filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) procedure, a form of therapeutic apheresis. A first filter separates the plasma from the blood cells. The plasma then passes through the TKM58 precision filter, which specifically removes pathogenic proteins and protein-bound toxic substances from the blood plasma while nutrients, vitamins and minerals are retained. The filtered plasma is returned to the patient together with the blood cells, so no plasma replacement is needed.
The treatment is conducted on an outpatient basis and lasts approximately 2 to 2.5 hours under continuous medical supervision. The separated waste, or “eluate”, can be sent to Ayus Laboratories AG in Horgen, Switzerland for detailed analysis.
Inuspheresis® is an established double filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) procedure, a form of therapeutic apheresis that has been used in clinical practice for many years. The Inuspheresis® system is a CE-marked medical device and is registered with the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA). The treatment is not covered by medical aid schemes. Individual results vary and no therapeutic outcome can be guaranteed.
The treatment, step by step
01
Consultation & assessment
Your medical history is reviewed and the necessary examinations are carried out. Dr. Goldberg assesses whether the treatment is suitable for you.
02
Plasma separation
Blood is drawn from a vein in one arm and separated into plasma and blood cells.
03
Filtration
The plasma passes through the filter, which removes the targeted substances while retaining nutrients.
04
Return & recovery
The filtered plasma is returned together with the blood cells through a vein in the other arm. The patient rests for a short observation period before discharge. No driving for 24 hours.
05
Optional eluate analysis
On request, the filtered eluate can be analyzed at Ayus Laboratories AG in Horgen, Switzerland.
Substances removed from blood plasma
The TKM58 filter is engineered to selectively remove a wide range of harmful substances while preserving the body’s essential proteins, electrolytes, and nutrients.
INF
Inflammatory mediators
TNF-alpha, RANTES (CCL5), C-reactive protein (CRP) and Alpha-2-Macroglobulin, markers associated with chronic systemic inflammation.
IMM
Immune complexes
Pro-inflammatory cytokines and auto-antibodies implicated in autoimmune diseases, tissue damage, and chronic inflammatory conditions.
PES
Pesticides & organochlorines
Lindane, PCP, HCB and other persistent organic pollutants that accumulate in the body via the food chain and environment.
HME
Heavy metals
Cobalt, nickel, mercury (including from dental amalgam), aluminum, lead, arsenic, detected in the filtered eluate.
LIP
Lipids & pathogenic proteins
LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, Lp(a), Lp-PLA2 and asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA).
SOL
Solvents & plasticisers
PCBs, toluene, xylene, dichloromethane, trimethylbenzene, endocrine-disrupting chemicals from industrial and domestic sources.
Conditions that may benefit
Inuspheresis® is used as a standalone and complementary treatment in the following areas. Individual suitability is assessed at consultation.
Listing an application is not a guarantee of therapeutic benefit. Results vary between individuals. Inuspheresis® is a complementary therapy and does not replace conventional medical treatment.
Built on 15 years of clinical data
Published studies describe changes in laboratory markers following treatment. The individual publications, including sample sizes and study types, are available at inuspheresis.com/studies.
The effectiveness of apheresis in various applications has been examined in over 34,000 studies (PubMed, March 2026). Currently nineteen peer-reviewed publications relate specifically to Inuspheresis®, all listed with sources at inuspheresis.com/studies.

Before, during & after treatment
Before your treatment
- Drink 2–2.5 liters of water per day for 2–3 days beforehand
- Stop drinking fluids approximately 2 hours before the session
- Eat a good meal on the day of treatment
- Continue prescribed medications as normal (confirm with Dr. Goldberg)
- Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing with easy arm access
- Arrange transport, you must not drive for 24 hours after treatment
- ECG and blood tests will be conducted (can be done in advance)
- Disclose all allergies, especially to Heparin
- Signed informed consent required at least 24 hours in advance
During treatment
- Duration: approximately 2 to 2.5 hours
- IV access established in both arm bends
- Anticoagulation and infusion volume are determined individually by the treating physician
- Blood pressure, pulse and ECG are monitored throughout, and a nursing professional is present at all times
- Blankets and heating pads are available, as some patients feel cold during the session
After treatment
- Injection sites are compressed for at least 15 minutes before discharge
- Rest on the day of treatment, no strenuous exercise, sauna, or heavy lifting
- Avoid long car journeys and flights for up to 48 hours
- Increased hunger and mild tiredness are normal and expected
- A high-protein diet (especially plant protein) is recommended
- Slightly discolored urine is normal and not a cause for concern
- Eluate can be sent for optional toxin analysis at Ayus Laboratories AG, Horgen, Switzerland
- A follow-up consultation is recommended to assess results
Published peer-reviewed data describe DFPP as a generally well-tolerated procedure, with most reported adverse events being transient and related to hemodynamic changes or vascular access. The side-effect rate recorded at the INUS Medical Center in Cham, Germany, is 0.7%. Possible effects include transient dizziness, hematoma at the puncture sites or a mild allergic reaction to Heparin. Serious adverse events such as an allergic reaction to foreign material are very rare. A full side-effect disclosure is provided before informed consent is obtained.
